If you want to really find success on Product Hunt, I would recommend a couple of different things.

Build up that influential list. So, one I gave you that tip about how do you reach out to a moderator. You want a moderator to post out there because not everything makes it to the homepage of Product Hunt.

So, having a moderator in there helps you push that along. Product Hunt refreshes 12 Am Pacific at every single day. So, want to make sure that they post early on the day. So, if we on the West Coast are sleeping, rest of the World can really look at your app, upvote it and so forth.

Try to get the moderator publish the app early on in a day, West Coast time.

The other thing is when you have the influential list or your friends, the one thing you should never do on Product Hunt is- Ask for upvotes!

For some reason, they always find out. Even if you are just doing it with your Facebook friends they somehow find out. So, never publicly ask. But you can have a network of people that you already have ready to go and say, “Hey we are going live on Product Hunt, we love for you to come, share and upvote.”

So, that’s the algorithm. It’s a black box but we know it is based on upvotes, shares, comments. So, make sure your influential list, your friends, that you are privately asking for upvotes, they are in there sharing it, posting, commenting and so forth.

The last thing I will say is – Share throughout the day. When I had my Ebook on Product Hunt I hit number one, I think we had 400 upvotes but I shared throughout the day. I was like – “Oh my goodness I am on Product Hunt, check me out! I have 100 upvotes.” “I have 200 upvotes!” “Oh! I am still number one.”

Really share out those media shares. I did it on Facebook, I did it on Twitter throughout the day. So, don’t just do it one day in the morning and you are done. Do it morning, afternoon, evening, and just share throughout that day. Also, look for different platforms, Facebook groups, Linkedin groups you are really active in. Try and be active on the groups and when you are there, say, “Hey guys, I am on Product Hunt *wink wink*” We all know what you want from them. But say, “Hey guys, I am on Product Hunt. Check it out and love to hear your thought on that.”
