The most important thing to remember when you’re reaching out to influencers is – give first. So often, folks reach out to me asking for my help, but I don’t know who they are. Whereas, when folks reach out to me asking for my help after they’ve been sharing my content for months and tagging me and commenting intelligently, they’ll get a totally different response.
What I always tell entrepreneurs is, give first, provide value first. Every influencer out there is reachable now, that’s the good news. But, just because they’re reachable doesn’t mean you should go after them and spam them and ask them for help.
The best way to get help from influencers is to first connect with them, share their content, retweet them, reshare them on LinkedIn, comment intelligently on their LinkedIn posts and other blog posts. And then, as you’ve started to build a relationship, then ask for their help in a very specific way and make it as easy as possible.
So, don’t just blanketly ask me or any other influencer for help, but when you’re ready for it, give them a very specific ask, let them copy and paste or click to tweet or just make it super simple and easy for them to help you.
